·    Gunmen in car shoot at US military convoy near Baghdad airport.

Gunmen in car shoot at US military convoy near Baghdad airport.

In a dispatch posted at 8:35pm Baghdad time Wednesday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men in a private car took shots at a US military convoy near Baghdad International Airport on Wednesday.

Yaqen reported eyewitnesses as saying that the US troops responded by destroying the attackers’ car, killing all aboard.  No information on US casualties, if there were any, was available.

Car bomb wounds seven in Baghdad’s al-Karradah district Wednesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that seven people were wounded when a car bomb exploded near a drink shop in Baghdad’s al-Karradah district after noon Wednesday.

Yaqen reported the official spokesman of the Baghdad Operations Command as saying that Iraqi regime security forces cordoned off the area as ambulances rushed the injured people to a nearby hospital.

US announces death of three American soldiers in bomb explosion in Ninwa Province Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:10pm Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (11:10am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that the US military had announced that three US soldiers and their Iraqi translator had been killed when a bomb exploded by an American patrol in Ninwa Province in northwestern Iraq Tuesday evening.

Xinhua reported the US statement did not say specifically where the incident occurred.

Since 10 May, the US and its Iraqi regime allies have been waging an offensive against the al-Qa‘idah organization in al-Mawsil and surrounding Ninwa Province.

US helicopter blasts home near Tikrit, killing man, wife, three children early Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 2:29pm Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (10:29am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that an American helicopter gun ship had blasted a house in the village of Samrah east of Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, at dawn Wednesday.

Xinhua reported a source in the Tikrit city police as saying that the attack killed five members of the family living in the house – three children and their mother and father, a worker by the name of Ahmad Zaydan.  The attack also totally destroyed the houses.

Three other people were wounded in a neighboring house as a result of the raid.  Other homes in the area suffered varying degrees of damage.  The source said that US troops withdrew from the area early Wednesday and it was not clear at that time why the attack had taken place.

Iraqi army soldier killed in booby-trapped house near Buhriz.

In a dispatch posted at 2:30pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a one Iraqi regime soldier was killed and three more wounded when a house was blown up over their heads as they were searching the building.

Yaqen reported a source in the provincial police as saying that the troops were searching a house in the village of al-Mulla ‘Id in the Buhriz area, 60km northeast of Baghdad.  The house had been booby-trapped by gunmen, and exploded as the troops were inside.

Bomb targets police patrol in southwestern Kirkuk Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:28pm Baghdad time Wednesday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that one person was killed and a policeman wounded when a bomb exploded by a police patrol to the southwest of Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad, on Wednesday.

Yaqen reported a source in the Kirkuk police as saying that a homemade bomb planted by the side of a road in the al-Khadra’ neighborhood in the southwestern part of the city exploded by a police patrol.  In addition to killing one person and wounding one of the policemen in the patrol, the blast also damaged a vehicle in the patrol and also nearby buildings.

Deputy hospital director survives bomb attack in Kirkuk Wednesday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 7:09pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by the motorcade of the Deputy Director of Kirkuk General Hospital in Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad on Wednesday morning.

Yaqen reported a source in the Kirkuk Health Department as saying that the explosion targeted the motorcade of Dr. Sabah Amin ad-Dawudi, Deputy Director of Kirkuk General Hospital, in the al-Kurnish area of the city.  The blast wounded his driver, but ad-Dawudi himself was unhurt.

Gunmen assassinate administrative chief of al-Mawsil, the fourth such assassination in three days.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:49pm Wednesday afternoon Beijing time (11:49am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men had shot and killed the Engineer Khalid Mahmud, the Municipal Administrator of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

Xinhua reported a source in the al-Mawsil police as saying that gunmen attacked Mahmud in front of his house in the al-Baladiyat area in the northern part of the city as he was on his way to his office.  He died on the spot.  Also killed was Mahmud’s driver.  The attackers then fled the scene.

It was the fourth head of a municipality to be assassinated by gunmen in the last three days.  Previously two administrative heads of townships in Baghdad were killed Tuesday and the municipal chairman in Salman Bak, 35km southeast of Baghdad, had been killed in an attack on Monday.

Iraqi regime forces arrest 87 members of anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia as preparations continue for US attack on Iran.

In a dispatch posted at 12:12pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime forces had arrested 87 members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia since the start of its campaign against the organization in Maysan Province last week.

Yaqen reported Muhammad al-‘Askari, spokesman for the Iraqi regime’s Ministry of Defense, as saying that in addition, the regime forces had seized 21 caches of Iranian-made weapons and they also discovered two workshops for producing advanced adhesive bombs.

On Thursday, 19 June, the Iraqi government launched its security sweep of Maysan Province, another step in the general offensive by the US-backed regime against the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its Jaysh al-Mahdi militia launched in March this year.  That sweep has involved pitched battles and mass arrests in southern al-Basrah Province and in Baghdad’s Madinat as-Sadr and other districts and is seen as preparation for a US offensive against Iran.

Bomb in car in Karbala’ kills child Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 9:45pm Baghdad time Wednesday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a child was killed and four other people injured when a bomb exploded inside a private car in Karbala’, 110km south of Baghdad, on Wednesday.

Yaqen reported a source in the Karbala’ Health Department as saying that one of the injured had been severely wounded in the attack.
